The purpose of the CASF is to directly enrich the instructional environment, providing materials, equipment, student support services, and other extended learning opportunities. CASF promotes teacher innovation, creation and multiple student learning pathways.
The CASF funds a mini-grant program at Centaurus, where representatives from each academic department, administration, and the parent community decide which requests to fund.

Former recipient teachers share what they have been able to provide due to your incredible generosity! Some examples of items/experiences purchased are below:
Katie Thomas shared, With the support of a CASF grant, our Intensive Learning Center was able to purchase sensory equipment for students with significant intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, and visual and motor impairments. The new sensory materials, including light-up interactive devices, sensory wall and floor activities, and adaptive fidget tools, provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage their senses while building attention, communication, and motor skills. As a result, our sensory room has become a more engaging and accessible learning environment where our most impacted learners are able to participate more actively, regulate their bodies, and experience greater success during instructional activities.
Christine Ferguson stated, “The CASF Innovative Grant provided math classrooms with writable surface desks and matching chairs. These desks have transformed the way students learn by making collaboration a part of every lesson. Students regularly work in pairs and small groups, sharing their thinking, discussing strategies, and solving challenging problems together. We have seen increased student engagement, richer mathematical conversations, and stronger teamwork. The writable surfaces have shifted learning from a traditional teacher-centered approach to a more collaborative, student-driven environment where students learn from one another.”
David Wood offered, “With the support of a CASF grant, the Centaurus Boys and Girls Soccer programs were able to replace the netting in our four, small practice goals, which had large holes in them, and our grass corner flags, which are used for C level home games, and had fallen apart over the years. As a result, we will be able to run drills more easily during practice, as balls will be contained by the nets, and will be able to continue hosting C level games at our school”.
Catherine Barnes and the Engineering team stated, “The CASF funds supported enriching field trip experiences in Engineering. Cybersecurity students toured Google and participated in a panel discussion with programmers, gaining valuable industry insights. Computer Science students visited feeder elementary schools to promote interest in the Hour of Code program, inspiring younger students in coding. Additionally, we hosted 5th graders from Pioneer Elementary at Centaurus, giving them a tour of the engineering program and school, followed by lunch together in our cafeteria!”
Mrs. Lieberman stated, I am incredibly grateful to have been a recipient of the CASF Grant over the past three years in support of our AVID and CLDE programs. This generous funding has provided our students with opportunities to participate in college fairs, where they engage with representatives from many colleges and universities, attend highly informative financial aid presentations, and listen to impactful stories from former AVID students and educators. Additionally, students have the unique opportunity to attend a Denver Nuggets and Colorado Rockies game, an experience that, for many, marked their first time at a professional athletic event. Your continued support has made a meaningful difference in the lives of our students, and we extend our sincere appreciation to the community for its unwavering commitment to educational access and opportunity.
Cacia Steensen stated, “With the support of the CASF grant, our IB/AP Biology 2 classroom was equipped with consumable laboratory materials for bacterial transformation, ELISA, PCR, gel electrophoresis, conservation genetics, and algae ecology investigations. Students used these resources to perform advanced biotechnology techniques, design their own experiments, and collect and analyze authentic data. As a result, students gained confidence with laboratory skills used by professional scientists while making meaningful connections between biotechnology, ecology, and real-world biological research.”
Mrs. Gance shared, ”Through the support of the CASF grant, the Language Arts Department was able to purchase Romeo and Juliet texts written at a lower Lexile level to better meet the needs of struggling readers and English language learners. These adapted texts made Shakespeare's language more accessible, allowing students to develop a stronger understanding of the play's themes, characters, and plot. This resource increased student comprehension, engagement, and confidence, enabling more learners to successfully participate in class discussions and literary analysis.”
Mrs. Dunbar’s students shared, The Nearpod License that CASF funded allowed all CHS teachers to have access to 24 digital tools and 22,000 standards-aligned lessons to engage students and promote a sense of belonging in their classrooms. Nearpod gives every student a voice and individual assessment, through interactive collaboration boards and other activities. This year the Advisory classes utilized Nearpod lessons to allow students to take virtual college tours and explore vocational pathways as they begin thinking about their post-secondary journey. Students feel more confident and connected. Here are direct quotes from my Language Arts students from the fall.
Mrs. Kourany statedthat with the support of a CASF grant, our Spanish classrooms purchased a subscription to InThinking IB, an online resource designed specifically for IB Spanish. Students used the materials to practice IB Paper 1 writing, prepare for oral assessments, analyze model responses, and explore cultural and global topics in Spanish. The structured activities, examples, and assessment guidance helped students better understand what IB expects and gave them more opportunities to practice important skills. As a result, I saw greater confidence, participation, and independence, particularly when students approached challenging writing and speaking tasks. This resource also allowed me to provide more targeted support and meaningful IB preparation for students with different language abilities.
The IB Science and Engineering Team stated, “With the support of CASF, the IB Diploma Programmer and the Centaurus Science and Engineering Departments were able to sponsor the IB Collaborative Sciences Project. This is an interdisciplinary opportunity for students in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Design Technology, and Computer Science to visit the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), do a severe weather design challenge, address extreme weather events in recent Colorado history, and come up with possible mitigations. The students collaborated across their content areas and created professionally printed posters to hang in our hallways. The students came away with interdisciplinary connections and community resources to empower them in tackling local and global STEM issues.”
Katie Thrash offered, “Thanks to the CASF grant, our ILC students use a Functional Math Curriculum to build real-world math skills, including using money, budgeting, telling time, and problem-solving. The curriculum is relevant to today's changing world by incorporating modern approaches to money and technology. Students practice these skills through hands-on lessons and apply them during community-based outings while shopping, making purchases, and navigating everyday situations. The curriculum has increased student engagement, confidence, and independence while helping students connect classroom learning to real life!”
Sarah Flynn shared, “Thanks to the CASF grant that purchased specialty glazes for ceramics classes, students could participate in the controlled chaos of specialty glazes and work in the space where chemistry meets creativity. Students are mesmerized by glaze: the crystalline bursts, metallic sheens, and volcanic crackle effects. As a result, they want to stay late, try again after failures and remember what cone 6 means. In short, they are hooked: engagement goes up, craft-person-ship increases and students return for advanced classes. “
